James Cameron may have another movie on the horizon with his special obsession, aliens.

These are not your average run of the mill aliens. These aliens wield magnificent samurai swords. It would be something along the lines of Akira Kurosawa's classic SEVEN SAMURAI. Word of this new project comes from Production Weekly, "James Cameron is developing a Shane Salerno-scripted sci-fi action script for Fox, described as an "event" film set in the future."

However, io9 with help from THR used their powers of investigation to find out more on this sci-fi "event". The script which was written by Shane Salerno is entitled DOOMSDAY PROTOCAL, here's what was offered as a synopsis: "Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it is known to be an epic science fiction adventure in the vein of "The Seven Samurai" involving a group of aliens and humans with various abilities who are brought together to save Earth."

What project will be first? Cameron has BATTLE ANGEL, possible AVATAR sequels, and six other projects in development. So, what do you guys think? You want some more Cameron alien action?

Extra Tidbit: James Cameron apparently wrote a script for SPIDER-MAN, but the studio turned him down. I wonder what that would have been like. Any takers?

Battle Angel
Mr. King of the World better do Battle Angel next. I mean come on.

But if he did this. How about Lucas gets on board and they have lightsabers?

I wonder...
if the studio execs ever say, "Hey James, you think you can make us a movie that doesn't cost half a billion dollars?"

Futuristic tales set with characters wielding swords, with Seven Samurai similiarities? Has someone been talking to Mr Lucas?

Bill Paxton was his choice for that version of Peter Parker at the time. That would have been cool.

Like someone else said, wasn't this sort of adaption already done in Battle Beyond The Stars back in 1980. Of course, younger audiences won't have a clue what that was.

I would rather want him to do Battle Angel (Based on an anime called "Battle Angel Alita") . I've read up about it and it could be all kinds of awesome if he keeps that as his next project.

If you posted that Cameron was making a fucking Barbie movie I would be pumped, because he'd obviously make it KICK ASS. So many haters out there that hate just to hate. I hate them.

I heard the Cameron Spider-Man was very unconventional, like Doc. Ock was the protagonist or something and it was told from his perspective, not Spider-Man's. I could be remembering wrong though. And I did hear it second hand from someone who read it, I didn't read it myself.

you heard wrong. pretty much Cameron just put his name on a shitty script that had already been written, added in some foul language, and collected his 3 million dollar writers fee. the script was told from spidey's point of view, of course, and Doctor Octopus kept saying "okey dokey".

I do not give one fuck if Avatar is hugely successful. If Cameron's next project isn't Battle Angel, he can go straight to hell.

I think I read Cameron's scriptment a few years back and I believe Shocker made an appearance. It was pretty cool I think but it's been a few years since I read it. Here is a link to Cameron's version.

Spider-man
James Cameron casted Michael Biehn as Peter Parker in the early 90s. He probably would have gotten Arnold as Doc Ock. As much as I like Beihn, I don't see him as Spiderman.

I think organic webbing is the only thing carried over (I'm still a fan of that - don't care what anyone else says).

Hopefully we don't have to wait another decade for another Cameron film,...

Everyone else is reporting that he's just producing this one. Not directing.

Also, this sounds like a remake of "Battle Beyond the Stars".

I'm always down for good sci-fi action movie, and Cameron pretty much owns that genre so sign me up. Hope he dosent prove me wrong with Avatar.. I have faith, already have my tickets for 3d imax screening friday night!

Anyone else feel they dont make enough movies in this genre anymore? I mean good (hardcore) movies, not this bubblegum bullshit like transformers or any crap...

I DO! ...currently
"Avatar" might make me think otherwise (but I'm totally digging on the film right now). I want to see a Cameron "Battle Angel" flick in 3D...B.A.!!

Sounds cool. I read Cameron's spiderman treatment online a few years ago. It was not quite as family friendly as Raimi's version (Peter Parker and MJ wham bam on top of the Brooklyn Bridge at one point).
