Disney breaks new ground with The Lion King Preview Viewing

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

THE LION KING shattered records this Thanksgiving weekend by becoming the second most viewed trailer of all time with a whopping 224.6 million views in one single day online. The only film to ever beat this record is AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, which, if you're paying attention, is a product of Disney's Marvel Cinematic Universe, so it doesn't sound like the head honchos at Mickey Mouse Incorporated are going to be too beaten up over coming in second with their not-so-live-action CGI remake.

Starring Donald Glover as Simba, Beyonce Knowles Carter as Nala, John Oliver as Zazu, and James Earl Jones reprising his role as Mufasa, the teaser trailer shows a replication of the famous christening scene from the 1994 classic, wowing those eager to see Jon Favreau's time up at bat and naysayers alike.

Personally, I think the first trailer looks terrific, and given Jon Favreau's track record with IRON MAN, THE JUNGLE BOOK, and more, I'd say this reimagining is in good hands.

THE LION KING is scheduled to roar into theaters on July 19th, 2019. We'll be there to catch this one on the big screen, will you?
