Drew Struzan retires

09.05.2008

Cue up the saddest theme music you have on your internal soundtrack -- a great contributor to the world of movies is hanging up the brushes.

Artist Drew Struzan, who has provided iconic images for some of the greatest genre movies in the past few decades, has decided he's all done with illustration, leaving many blank walls for emotionally devastated film fans in the future.

It would be virtually impossible for anyone to have never seen Struzan's work, but you can find plenty more below. We're gonna miss your gifts, Mr. Struzan.

Extra Tidbit: David Drayton, Thomas Jane's character in THE MIST, was a Struzan homage (his paintings in the film were Struzan's work, as was THE MIST's poster).

Goodbye!

Drew Struzan created some of the best film posters of all time and set the standard for high quality poster art.
It's a shame to see him "hang up the brush" but I guess it had to happen some day.

I only hope someone else comes along and steps up to the plate, there's a lot of talented artists out there, so why do we get such shitty poster art these days?

WHAT!?!

NOOOOO

This sucks!

I love his work. Even the album cover for AVA's I-Empire was absolutely amazing! He's a legend! Why hang up the gloves?

Dammit!

Ugh, now every movie poster is going to be a photoshopped mess from now on. When did actual movie poster art became a dead art?

how bizarre

I literally just finished watching The Mist and checking out the special features and I saw a documentary on Struzan on there and then I came on here and this was the top headline. I had seen many of the mans posters before but never realized they were all by the same guy. I aboslutely adore his piece for The Thing. Kinda sad that literally minutes after discovering this guy, he retires.

Damn that sucks. He created some of the greatest posters. I would love to own one of these, hell, any of these...

I love his Indy Jones, Hellboy, Back to the Future, The Goonies, An American Tail and Angels in the Outfield posters.

Wow, that is a surprise. He was like the most famous poster designer ever. Too bad.

Among my favorite posters of his were Blade Runner, The Thing, First Blood, BTTF, Indiana Jones, the Muppet movies, Mallrats, and The Mist.
