Gyllenhaal off to Moon

Oct. 9, 2007by:

Jake Gyllenhaal has signed on to star in UNTITLED MOON PROJECT for director Doug Liman (THE BOURNE IDENTITY). I'm guessing that isn't the actual title but that would be cool if they just called it that ("Could I have two tickets to UNTITLED MOON PROJECT please?"). The action flick will follow private trips to the moon in a race to colonize that floating sphere of cheese in the sky. The script was originally written by Liman and John Hamburg (MEET THE PARENTS) but the shooting draft will have an extensive rewrite by Mark Bowden (BLACK HAWK DOWN). The project has gotten the official pre-strike fasttrack with the studio hoping to get moving after Gyllenaal wraps filming on BROTHERS with Tobey Maguire and Natalie Portman. Liman is currently in post-production on Fox's action flick JUMPER, which is scheduled for release this February.

Extra Tidbit: Is anyone worried that studios are rushing a bunch of films into production before the proposed strike?

Strike Now!

I'm so tired of the mention of the "impending strike", that I don't want to hear about it again until it starts, and workers are in front of the studios with picket signs. None of the movies greenlit in the rush before the seem like movies I'd bother seening anyway.

grim_tangent, Bowden wrote the original articles that Black Hawk Down was based on. This project, btw, sounds pretty cool. I've liked Liman's work so far so...

OH MY GOD! STRIKE!

I'm with the rest of you... ths whole pre-strike rush is REALLY bad news for Hollywood. The last time there was a scare, we ended up with a lot of bad reality tv and movies that made you wanna go home and watch bad reality tv. Sad.

I wish they would just get this strike over with so I don't have to hear anymore of it.
I mean really, it's like the second coming of Christ.
People say it's gonna happen but...

I'm always worried about how studios make choices. It makes me worry about the quality of the films. Then again "Munich," from the time Spielberg picked it up to the time it came out, one quick turnaround, and it wasn't bad at all. Then again, that's Spielberg we're talking about.

I have to admit it sounds like one eclectic writing team. Liman, who I still associate (aside from starting the Bourne franchise off) with comedies like "Swingers", "Go", the writer from "Meet the Parents", and

Mark Bowden rewriting? I know he did a draft of Black Hawk Down, but that was replaced by someone else's. I suppose they need him here as something of a fact checker on the scientific aspects, as he is an incredibly talented journalist.
