Now I don’t know much about the Sunday Mirror, other than it’s the Sunday edition of the UK’s Daily Mirror. And the Daily Mirror site says it’s “The Best Newspaper on the Web!” so I guess that must be true, right? Anyway, take it with a grain of salt right now but the Mirror is claiming that James McAvoy (THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND) has officially signed on to star as Montgomery “Scotty” Scott in JJ Abrams STAR TREK. McAvoy is Scottish, which would certainly qualify him for the role, but beyond that only Zachary Quinto (and Leonard Nimoy) have been confirmed as starring in the film. The original Scotty was played by the late James Doohan and, though my STAR TREK knowledge is limited, was responsible for beaming people up (?). McAvoy was just seen in BECOMING JANE and has ATONEMENT with Keira Knightley coming later this year. He’s currently filming the action-thriller WANTED with Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman. Stay tuned for more on this and other STAR TREK casting news as it develops.
Has Scotty been cast?
