Neil Burger will direct Bryan Cranston and Kevin Hart in Intouchables remake

08.25.2016

2011 saw the release of THE INTOUCHABLES, a French film that followed an aristocrat who hires a young man from the projects to be his caregiver after he becomes a quadriplegic from a paragliding accident. Raw deal! However, the film itself turned out to be quite the emotional tale and made enough waves that Hollywood deemed it necessary for an American remake. We haven't heard too much about that . . . until now.

As Deadline reports, Neil Burger (DIVERGENT, LIMITLESS) has been tapped to direct the remake with Bryan Cranston and Kevin Hart in tow. At this rate, there's only a handful of actors that Kevin Hart HASN'T been paired up with. Still, this pairing may prove fruitful given the source material. Something tells me The Weinstein Company will probably not name this flick THE UNTOUCHABLES, so I'm curious with what name they will go with. PARAGLIDING BROMANCE? That's a free one, Weinstein Company. You're welcome.

THE INTOUCHABLES remake will go into production early next year.

The original movie was the best movie I have seen this year. Funny and touching and all good things.

Tough to duplicate that.

I had read that those 2 actors were in talks to be in the movie, but I didn't know it was official already. Hollywood remakes of foreign movies are almost always bad ideas, but this is just baffling. The original was a huge hit all over the world. It's not like the studio can use the "Americans didn't see the original" excuse.

Bryan and Neil are both talented, so I know they'll make the movie watchable. Kevin has talent too, but his schtick is completely wrong for this material.

I honestly don't know why they couldn't use the "Americans didn't see the original" excuse, because they didn't. While it made 400 million worldwide, it only made 10 million in the US.

That said, I think its a little silly to remake it, since the original was so well done. Cranston's a good choice, but I just don't see Kevin Hart pulling off the nuance that Omar Sy brought to the role.

OH Jesus Christ! For a second I thought they said THE UNTOUCHABLES! I almost jumped out of a 2nd story window if that were the case...

Kevin Hart as the short sidekick??

So I'm down for Bryan playing Capone or a different bad guy. He isn't quite Eliot Ness, hopefully that isn't who Hart is playing. Pretty sure Hart is just going to be just some time traveler introduced for stupid comedic wisecracks and accidentally shooting Capone or something for a third time...
