New trailer for The Hunger Games

02.02.2012

The new trailer for THE HUNGER GAMES has arrived and it gives the most in-depth peek thus far into the world of Pan Em and a few more action shots with the "players" actually in the games.

Take a look:

I read the book and found it intriguing, but was not won over completely, nor did it compel me to read the next two in the series. It's an entertaining read, but I don't get the obsession over it. It's competent, but not revolutionary. Perhaps, that's enough for most and I'm cool with that.

I actually think the film will be much more entertaining and am looking forward to it. The games begin on March 23, 2012.

Extra Tidbit: I like what I'm seeing from Jennifer Lawrence in this. Anyone else have a better choice for the role of Katniss Everdeen?

idk...

I read the first book to see how it was when I heard they were turning it into a film since the concept is ripe for some really good material. However, everything is just so safe a neutered that it just cant become as good as it should be given the subject matter. I'm getting the same feel from these trailers which is probably because they just wont show us ANYTHING of the games themselves. This success of the film outside of the young teen demographic hinges on not shying away from the what should be darker moments but I just see it falling in line with the books :-(

That and whoever the art director is for this film needs to be locked away because it's so schizophrenic. I can't take anything seriously with how goofy everything looks, I don't care if it's trying to recreate imagery from the book since film is a completely different medium and isn't as forgiving as your imagination in a book... rant over...

Do people not realize that this is a rip off of Battle Royale. I completely agree with Vanity Ruins, I'd rather see a Battle Royale remake, preferably made by Tarantino since it is one of his favorite movies.

While I agree that it is similar to battle royal. The Author claims to have never heard of it before writing the books. Is he lying maybe but no way to prove it one way or the other.

If you boil it down to the basic idea, every man for him or herself has been done since the dawn of time, it's all in how you spin it, at least it's not vampires....

@Fury159 I don't know if you read the book but I did and al of the main parts of The Hunger Games is straight out of Battle Royale, even the ending to an extent.

@Milliniar I know she claims that she had never heard of Battle Royale and there is no way to prove it, but c'mon we all know she has

Potential

I enjoyed the first book, but haven't read the other two. "It's an entertaining read..It's competent, but not revolutionary." I feel as if that's how the movie will ultimately be perceived as..people have said it here before me, but the best thing they have going for it is definitely the cast. Love me some Jennifer Lawrence :)

It's Woody's casting that has me the most intrigued. Lawrence is hot, but doesn't exactly look poor and hungry . . .

@Bigger Boat- I think Lawrence does look like Katniss would because she is well fed..she's poor yes, but she hunts daily and so she's clearly more well fed than the others. She wouldn't be super skinny.

The first one was a great read, second was a good read, and the last book was severely disappointing, one of the worst endings of a series i've read.

That said I still plan on enjoying this movie... hopefully it's enjoyable

I've read the first book. It's good entertainment. It's dystopian future-lite, though. It gets somewhat dark, but never too far, which I feel is a bit of a cop-out considering it depicts plenty of brutal deaths and flirts with the consequences of forcing people to do those things. So it feels like a tease. Look, you're already having kids murder each other in horrible ways, don't soften other aspects of the story.

I knew they'd never take the adaptation to the next level. I wish they did,

I knew they'd never take the adaptation to the next level. I wish they did, because the story and characters could be taken to really interesting places. Too bad it looks pretty average.

I'm still having a hard time picturing Lenny Kravitz as Cinna.

It's a kids' book; of course it's not going to get that dark. Actually, it's pretty risky for what it is. I know a few parents and grandparents who loved the book but decided not to buy it for their 9-year-old, either because it might have been too much for them or they were worried the 6-year-old kid sister might get a hold of it.

This looks like it'll be a good movie and I like Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss.

It's not a kids' book, it's a Young Adult book. I should hope you know parents who decided not to give the book to their 9-year-old. Can you say scarred for life? 13 is the earliest age anyone should be reading these books. They are graphic stories of children brutally murdering other children, for crying out loud!

Yeah, I'm totally aware that it's a "young adult" book, so even if it goes to dark places it'll hold back some.

I just think it's weird that a book holds back at times, meanwhile *SPOILERISH* it still depicts kids being blown to bits by landmines, characters get arrows through the throat and drown on their own blood, and a 12 year old girl gets a spear through the stomach.

I still think it's a good book with some pretty powerful scenes. I just hope the movie turns out better than the

One thing's for sure, I think Jennifer Lawrence is perfect casting for Katniss. I also think they got Effie's look right, too.

Looks like the book to me. I'm intrigued, but if it weren't for the casting I wouldn't be. There's an early plot twist that didn't need to be shown in the trailer. Minor but still unnecessarily shown . . .

What was with the random X-Files sampling there at the end? Did I just hallucinate that?

Movie looks underwhelming and cheap, imo. Books weren't great, I don't even think I read the last one. I'd rather see a big budget adaptation of Battle Royale.
