Nick Stoller on Gulliver and Stretch; Jonah Hill talks 21 Jump Street

JimmyO got himself to the Greek Theater in Los Angeles this weekend to talk to the cast and crew behind GET HIM TO THE GREEK. While we’ll have the full interviews with Russell Brand, Jonah Hill and director Nick Stoller next week, we do have some quick tidbits on their upcoming films we can share.

While Stoller hasn’t yet decided on his next directing gig, he has a number of scripts on the way including GULLIVER’S TRAVELS, which stars Jack Black, Jason Segel and Emily Blunt and hits theaters in 3D this December. Says Stoller, “I saw a rough cut of it actually, and it’s great. It’s a big fantasy, comedy, adventure movie…It’s a real fantasy movie but with comedy in it.”

Stoller’s other big assignment is STRETCH ARMSTRONG, which he’s writing for Universal and Taylor Lautner. The movie will reteam him with GULLIVER director Rob Letterman. “It really was exciting for both of us to get to play in the superhero world and to make like a big, totally grounded, superhero movie, kind of with an IRON MAN tone, a little bit of a lighter tone to it. But we’re both huge, superhero movie fans and it seems fun to create a mythology… it’s a giant, awesome sandbox we get to play with. It’s gonna be serious, it’s not like he’ll turn himself into a rubber band… I love superhero movies and stuff, but Rob is like a serious [fan] and he knows it all and has a really good take on it, a visual take on it that I think… I think when that first teaser hits, [fans] will be like, ‘Oh shit!’”

Finally, Jonah Hill spoke quickly about 21 JUMP STREET, which will begin filming in early 2011 with Phil Lord and Chris Miller (CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS) directing. Says Jonah, “It’s really funny and it’s got some cool action sequences.” And of the oft-rumored Johnny Depp cameo? “We’re trying…(laughs)”
