Potter 7 title

12.21.2006

Harry Potter J.K. Rowling revealed the title of the final installment in the Harry Potter franchise, which she's currently writing, over on her official site and it's "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows". She apparently didn't outright reveal it but, in typical Harry Potter fashion, made it the answer to a Hangman game you apparently had to navigate pretty deep into the site to uncover (Comingsoon.net has a breakdown of the instructions to find the game on the official site should anyone be inclined to take a look). It's certainly ominous and doesn't exactly point to the franchise ending in laughter and rainbows. There's gonna be death and there's gonna be a sanctification of some sort that apparently will be done through death. What do you true blue Potter fans think about it? Does it relate to anything else in the franchise? Strike a little something back, why dontcha? HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF PHOENIX opens July 13th.

Extra Tidbit: The next installment, HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE, is apparently already scheduled for release November 21st, 2008.

JK Rowling can do no wrong. And the title is really appealing. It might be appreciated now by none hardcore fans, but I have all the confidence in the world that this will be on hell of a ride. Can't wait.

Good title - Rowling has not gone for an obvious title, which is good and I agree with others that it seems to suggest a darker final chapter for Harry Potter.

Deathly Hallows????

ok it doesn't give anything away but this is a damn epic story people are dealing with here, it sounds like just another case of trouble or darkness at hogwarts, like potter has to solve another case yet again.
hate it

Final

Yes... in the past, Potter novels have had mystical titles that had some flash to them.

However, this being the last book, "Deathly Hallows" sounds very final. It gives a sense of the end for the Hogwarts gang.

It's as good a title as any, and the books have been getting steadily darker from the get-go, which is why, IMO, they have transcended from being mere children's novels. They grew-up with the audience and adults can get into them, too. This is mere speculation on my part, but I get the feeling Harry will die and Ron and Hermione, in an epilogue, are married and have a little boy they name Harry. And I know just about everyone else had to think that, too, so maybe JK will surprise us.

I like it. I don't need anything fancy, this title makes it simple. There will be death. I'm not entirely sure what exactly the "Deathly Hallows" is referring to though. There's been no mention of it before, which makes sense. No one knew before book 5 came out what the Order of the Phoenix was, or in book 6 who the Half-Blood Prince was. Can't wait to get a hold of this!

meh

to be honest after all the anticipation of the name this fell a little flat with me. Whilst we knew there was no chance of sunshine and lollipops i would have expected a bit more oomph from JK!

wrong

This totally sounds generic to me . . . while it's not as obvious as 'final' I have to say that 'death' is just as broad.

Very satisfied

I was expecting some generic 'Harry Potter and the Final Battle'....but this name is fantastic. It shows that this book will be serious business....very morbid and dark. No boundaries.

That's what i got from it, maybe i am just stupid, lol
