Reeves has two sides

05.08.2009

One of the most sacred literary narratives of all time is that of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. It's fitting then, that one of our most storied thespians Keanu Reeves is set to star in the latest adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's seminal tale. Right. The early report is that Nicolas Winding Refn is in negotiations to direct the project, which is tentatively titled JEKYLL, and that Justin Haythe (REVOLUTIONARY ROAD) is penning the script.

Please keep in mind that this is in fact a modern retelling of the legendary story, which may in some way justify Reeves' casting. Frankly I'm a lot more excited for Guillermo del Toro's planned version, and gosh I hope you are too.
Extra Tidbit: Haven't these people ever heard of Gary Oldman?

Somehow Bret Ratner will be attached to direct somewhere, someday, someway. And this article is for nothing.

Biggest asshole in the world, Ratner is.

Dr. Reeves, Mr. Ted?

He could do fine, but he still needs to lose some of that botox in his face.... and Syang... with all do disrespect, you're giving him way too much credit. Just because he can play a split-personality in "A Scanner Darkly", does not mean he could play a Dr. who can't stop himself from transforming into a ravenous beast monster. Also, I'm no bigger fan of Christian Bale than the next person, but he is just not a "wooden" actor as you said. That is just a ridiculous statement. I could pull

I could pull out some movie from his past to back that point up, but there are so many that either one of them would just sound cliché. *Cough..American Psycho..Cough*. Excuse me. But anyways, I do like Reeves, and I hope he does well in this, but I'm not expecting a riveting or out of the ordinary performance from him..... your planet?

Not a Reeves fan...but I will hold my judgment until I see some footage....

Gary Oldman would be perfect for the role!

THE ETERNAL KEANU BASHING IS SO

last week ... For real! I am tired of the eternal bash towards Keanu by movie geeks in these sites. I see a lot of wooden actors *hint*Christian Bale*hint* being praised by the same characteristics Keanu has, and Keanu is much fearless in picking his projects than a lot of big names out there. Anyone who saw The Gift knows he played a scary character there and was really convincing as that nut redneck, and anyone who watched A Scanner Darkly knows he played the character with split

Anyone who saw The Gift knows he played a scary character there and was really convincing as that nut redneck, and anyone who watched A Scanner Darkly knows he played the character with split personalities Bob Arctor/Fred brilliantly. Those two works show that the man can act and they bode very well for Dr. Jekyll/Mr Hyde. And, BTW, who doesn't think Keanu hides something VERY VERY dark under that pretty face?

If his Mr. Hyde is anything like his nefarious redneck in THE GIFT, then I'll eat this one up.

All the flaws of THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL I owe to the writer and director - all the actors did the best they could with what (little) they had.

I could kinda, sorta see Reeves maybe doing two sides. But it'd come off more like schizophrenia than Jekyll and Hyde is my guess. So yeah, not a great choice.

Robert Louis Stevenson's book is one of my favorites, so naturally I'm very excited for Del Toro's adaptation. I just hope he gets Hyde right, not the gorilla-man some versions show.

Keanu Reeves has one side.
he's not versatile at all.

also, am I the only one still pissed that he's cast as Spike in the possible Cowboy Bebop movie?
ugh.

Keanu Reeves is a pretty bad choice, but I'll still look into the film.

That sounds interesting. Big-name star, on the rise director, modern version of classic tale. Bring it on.
