See the Omnicorp 2027 Keynote Presentation for the Robocop remake

Jan. 8, 2014by: Paul Shirey

In the spirit of the modern-day CES presentations, ROBOCOP is getting into the mix with their very own intro to the Omnicorp line of products, particularly the robotics featured in the remake, including ol' Robo himself. It's a hyperbolic presentation, but one that is consistent with the more boisterous and showy types of TED presentations that take place every year and a decent use of the "viral" formula that's becoming common in movie promotions. Fortunately, the presenter in question is able to keep his bearing. Perhaps Michael Bay should take some notes?

Have a look:

Here's the synopsis:

In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years - and it's meant billions for OmniCorp's bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) - a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit - is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.

ROBOCOP, starring Joel Kinnaman, Michael Keaton, Gary Oldman, Jackie Earle Haley, Abbie Cornish, Samuel L. Jackson, Jay Baruchel, hits theaters on February 12, 2014.

Shame they're putting all this work into marketing for a film that will probably be Terrible. You never know, but the more I see the trailers, of the actual Robocop/Murphy, the more this looks terrible. I'll definitely rent it just to see Keaton though.

I agree with Deej, this does seem to be trying to ape the style of the Prometheus TED talk, which was hypnotic, absorbing and compelling. The actor here even seems to be trying to do a Guy Pearce impression.

Don't care what the naysayers say...I love the original Robocop...but I'm very happy with how this remake is shaping up.

I don't think keynotes in 2027 will look like that, this came off way to studio-esque and artificial. Weyland's Prometheus' TED talk did it right/better. [link]

Nice timing for CES though.
