The famed Middle Eastern swashbuckler known as SINBAD hasn't seen easy sailing for a big-budget Hollywood production lately.

Keanu Reeves and director Rob Cohen (STEALTH, XXX) had plans for the scimitar-swinging adventurer, and then THE PACIFIER director Adam Shankman was going to take a stab at a new voyage. But the sailor seems stuck on dry land.

Until now, anyway -- SINBAD: THE FIFTH VOYAGE appears to be a low-budget indie retro approach to the material (Dynamation!), with relative unknown (and possible Arnold Vosloo impersonator) Shahin Sean Solimon picking up the blade and hacking at stop-motion monsters. Patrick Stewart is also involved in some capacity (voiceover at the very least).

There doesn't seem to be too much info out on the movie (aside from the Facebook presence), but here's the brief synopsis: When the Sultan's first born is taken by an evil sorcerer, Sinbad is tasked with traveling to a desert of magic and creatures to save her.

Check out the teaser below or in HD at Apple.

Extra Tidbit: All I know for sure is that it features some Harryhausen-style monsters, which is enough to scratch the nostalgia itch for me.

A real Sinbad movie, with a big budget, good actors and amazing special effects - now that would be something.

Perhaps something similar to that old animated movie with Pitt.

Phew. I was afraid the comedian was making a comeback. Still, after the failure of Prince of Persia, this is going to have to work hard to come out from under that steaming pile unscathed.

I'm psyched
If for no other reason, I am now effectively convinced that I can shoot and release a feature length film that was shot entirely on my property, while restricted to a budget of $242.87 USD.

I understand that middle eastern music is a bit different than ours but at the end that sounded like a Arabic midget having a seizure.

Looks pretty good for a DVD movie. When was the last time we saw "Dynamation"? Patrick sounds old.

So when I read the title, I totally thought it meant a Sinbad movie, ya know...starring Sinbad from esteemed movies such as Houseguest, First Kid, and Jingle all the Way.

Samsonite, WAY OFF.

I don't think he's allowed to be in movies anymore. Something do with breaking his shitty 1980's shoulderpad sweater contract clause.

I think if everywhere you go, you're being overexposed to a glut of Sinbad related material - you may need to alter your work commute.

I just hope Patrick Stewart isn't going the way of Ben Kingsley (Blood Rayne, Thunderbirds, The Love Guru).

Oh, come on. Kingsley won an Academy Award 28 YEARS AGO. Cuba Gooding Jr. has won one more recently. Sure, Patrick Stewart doesn't have an Oscar, but the guy is constantly winning awards for his theater work.

That would require him reaching the heights that Ben Kingsley reached. Starring in a movie opposite The Borg doesn't quite put in the same camp as winning an academy award for playing Ghandi.
