The music video for Sam Smith's Bond song features new footage from Spectre

10.05.2015

'Writing’s On The Wall’, the official theme song from SPECTRE, hit a little over a week ago and has continued to underwhelm Bond fans since. Still, this shouldn't detract audiences from the actual film as fans of the series know that the songs are generally hit or miss. If you can stomach it, Sam Smith's music video has arrived featuring some new, albeit brief, glimpses from SPECTRE.

Now, was Sam Smith crying in the final shot supposed to be funny? I dunno about you, but that imagery doesn't really come to mind when thinking of James Bond. Something tells me that an instrumental version of this theme isn't too far off, although we're probably not lucky enough to have that for the movie. Still, I'll take this over that Jack White monstrosity...

SPECTRE hits theaters on November 6, 2015.

It should have been the theme tune for Terminator Genisys. The writing was definitely on the wall for that one.

That is without a doubt one of the worst Bond themes I have ever had to suffer through. My god, who the hell let this whiny pretentious obnoxious douche sing? I can't tell if he is trying to sing like a man or a woman.

Its pretty Uninspiring for a Bond Song and yeh Whiny is a pretty good description, but then i dont think any of them have been good since Aha and the living Daylights.

I actually like this song. It's playing on the more complex aspects to the Bond character, which is not a bad thing despite what some commenters are saying below - at least in my opinion. If you listen back to the original Connery films, most of them were not "pop" fast beat hits. From Russia With Love, Thunderball, and You Only Live Twice. Louis Armstrong's We Have All the Time in the World for On Her Majesty's Secret Service is another one and that definitely had some heavy drama for Bond to

By no means do I think this is the BEST Bond song, but I actually think it's good.

So this is the song. It's not bad, but a bit of a downer. Which IS kind of unfortunate, because some of the previews have suggested Craig might be a little more fun this time around. Anyway, I'm not a Sam Smith fan, so I can't say I was expecting great things when he got the gig. I still want to see the movie, because we've got two elements present that have been rather lacking. A scary henchman for Bond to face off against, and what look to be substantial Bond Girls (seriously, how has Monica

I think people put a little too much stock in the song though. The melody is actually quite nice and retro. And since it's Spectre we're talking about, it's probably going to have a healthy dose of mystery to it.

Worst.
Bond.
Song.
Ever.
...is it me or does SPECTRE seem to be going the way of a gratuitous homage to the Bonds of the 70's and 80's? I'm sure I'll enjoy it, but from the trailers it feels like this is gonna be a quantitative mash-up.

I don't know if this song is good or bad... because I fell asleep listening to it.

these Bond films are too grim for me. Wish they get Dan Sevens as the next Bond

The song is not bad... but just by the melody, tone and mood, it makes me feel like this is the death of Craig as Bond.

I prefer the "Jack White monstrosity" over this. Nice orchestral opening but that constant weeping is painful to listen to. Whatever, guess it will be ok within another skillfully made opening sequence.

Meh... in tone with the current franchise

First film, the girlfriend dies. Second film, revenge against those responsible for the death of the girlfriend. Third film, trying (and failing) to protect M. The franchise took a dark, depressing turn and I expect another sad ending where a likable character get killed because of what he/she (likely she) did in the past.

Upon repeated listening to the track, I'm starting to like Writing On The Wall. It reminds me of Louis Armstrong's We Have All The Time in the World (from On Her Majesty's Secret Service) meets Adele's Skyfall. It has that certain sadness to it. Maybe a hint to the movie Spectre, perhaps?

Seriously?

What a horrible, horrible song. Just what the character of the rugged, very MANLY James Bond needs . . . a huge pile of falsetto warbling. The song has no punch, no force, nothing that brings out any kind of emotional response that relates to the actual film. One more example in a stream of "let's hire the hot artist" themes that fall flat.
