Tron director Joe Kosinski teaming with Scott Free for sci-fi epic Archangels

Despite his debut film not even coming out until December, TRON LEGACY’s Joe Kosinski is already being hyped as the next big up-and-coming director, which would make him 2010’s Neill Blomkamp I suppose.

Kosinksi is already set to helm OBLIVION, which is sadly not based on the Bethesda game, but rather a graphic novel, but he has his sights set on another project already. According to Heat Vision, he’s teaming with Scott Free (Ridley and Tony’s company) for ARCHANGELS, a sci-fi action movie.

The script is set in the near future and is described as a “Bourne”-style thriller crossed with alien elements. The protagonist is part of an elite force that is tasked with tracking aliens who get past Earth’s defense system.

I wonder how long we’ll keep using the phrase “Bourne”-style to describe every action movie with a shaky cam?

It sounds like a relatively generic concept for a sci-fi film, but under a capable director it could be cool I’m sure. The script is from newcomer Andrew Will, which is a gamble, but hey, at least it’s got a cool title going for it.
