Could SUPERMAN be heading back to the screen in a big LORD OF THE RINGS style trilogy? Well...maybe, especially if Mark Millar gets his way. You might know Millar as the creator of WANTED and the upcoming KICK-ASS (with Matthew Vaughn directing Nic Cage) but he's also done Superman work for DC. Millar, who's never bashful of self-promotion, talked to G4 and says he pitched Warner Bros. on a "big three-picture Superman thing, like a Lord of the Rings epic, starting over from scratch again with a seven-hour Superman story." Millar has been spreading the word that he's working with a "well known" director on the pitch but that name has yet to be revealed. Millar says he expects to hear the fate of his pitch over the next few weeks. For now, check out G4's interview with Millar where he talks about his epic plan, WANTED parts 2 and 3 and KICK-ASS.

Source: G4

Extra Tidbit: I thought a had a pretty decent SUPERMAN idea a few years back but "Heroes" came out and kinda stole my thunder.

Read some comics made post 1985 for a change!!!
I like superman the movie. It's one of the best comic-book adaptation. While Superman returns was a messy quasi-remake with subplot that doesn't belong in a Superman film (yes, the kid)

Like alot of 20 something guys, I started reading Superman around the Death and return event. I'm not saying that they should make this the next film. But it's a story that clearly altered the villains in the Superman universe. Villains like the Prankster and the Toyman, got huge make-overs but we're clearly out-dated. We got meaner and nastier versions of brainiac. The cyborg-Superman tried to tarnish the Superman legacy. Conduit was a jealous childhood friend of Clark Kent that became a Kryptonite powered villain. Lobo fought Superman a few times (in impressive slug-fests) Metropolis was destroyed by a dying Luthor. Metallo not only had a Kryptonite heart, now he could control machines to fight Superman. Hell, Clark Kent revealed his ID and married Lois (oh, and Clark is no longer the door-mat he once was)

The problem with the next film is that no matter how good it is, people won't care, they missed their chance in 2006 and screwed up. Not that Superman returns was that bad or badly marketed. It wasn't the Superman movie "for the 20th century" That people craved. I am sure that somewhere, someone can make the right film for the current audience. Just take your cues from the comics WRIITEN AFTER 1985!!!!!

No More Luthor!!!
Lex Luthor is a major tool! Superman needs someone powerful and interesting to fight!

Common WB put some creativity behind the new films!!!

the main problem with Superman films are the villians are weak and redundant. make use of Braniac or Dark Side. Using the Joker for a Superman villian would be better than the same ol Lex Luther BS

I don't get why this is happening. When Superman Returns came out I couldn't do enough to stop people from talking about how awesome it was, I didn't care for it myself, but the rest of the world sure seemed to love that thing to death.

Why???
This sounds disastrous? Singer did a great job? I can just imagine how this new superman will be and it'll be such a let down. Especially if it's anything like wanted.

i don't like this guy...
He seems like a mediocre talent, at best. I have been reading more of his stuff online and I like him less and less.

I really wish they were't doing this. Give this back to Singer and Routh. What a bust. Screw Mark Millar.

JJ Abrams
Hey guys, has anyone here read JJ Abrams script for Superman? i think it might need to be revised a tad but it is a worthy contender for where the new superman movies should go. What do you think?

I like the trilogy idea, but i don't need to see the origin story again. And i'd like the cast from superman returns to come back, but i'm guessing there is no chance of that now.

well Zeon636, the Wanted film was plenty stupid as well, (Loom of Fate.....WTF) but i know what youre saying. i always thought that the premise of Red Son was pretty sweet but the execution is a let down.

Doomsday
The whole story of Supes and Doomsday could actually turn out to be a triilogy if done right. It would be a little interesting to see the new Superman trilogy kick off with the Death of Superman. I'm still trying to write a decent adaptation of the graphic novel without the Justice League, which is hard, since it only really leaves room for the fighting and that's about it.

Mark Millar is not a very good writer. Superman Red Son is an awesome concept that ultimately goes nowhere.
I absolutely hated Wanted (not the movie, which vastly improved the POS comic).
Wanted is what happens when you ask a 12 year old to write a story about something "badass" and then tell them to go nuts with the swearing and titties. Maybe it was all tongue-in-cheek and that'...

Cage?
Why not bring Nic Cage into the mix and have him play a sinister alien from the Planet "Toupee"! His hair would have a life of its own and would be able to weaken Superman.

Great idea but I don't want Millar doing it. Find someone else.

I love the idea of a superhero franchise being planned out from beginning to end in a self-contained trilogy rather than "just continuing".

And make it dark. Not the happy, cheery tone seen in Superman Returns. All the best Supes stories are dark.

Interesting
Im all for a relaunch of Superman, but ive got to go look through my old comics to see if miller comes up on any of my superman mags. so long as they dont take the hero all dark. Dont get me wrong, the villians could stand to be darker but metropolis is the city of tomorrow and superman is the savior... keep those two elements bright and i think we could have a great new story.
