Punisher neutered? Aug. 15, 2008
Source: Latino Review
by: Mike Sampson

The Punisher should be able one of the easiest comic book characters to adapt. He doesn't dress up like a bat, spider or grow into a giant green monster yet Batman, Spider-Man and The Hulk all have had considerable more success than Frank Castle. It's sad when a Dolph Lundgren led movie is the best of your franchise. Director Lexi Alexander wanted to change all that with PUNISHER: WAR ZONE and it looked as if she were on the right track until Lionsgate reportedly fired her from her duties as director. Now Latino Review is reporting that Lionsgate is working to trim down Alexander's footage to a PG-13 rating.

The Punisher uses guns and violently kills people. How can this be PG-13? But then again this is the same studio that dumped MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN to make room for DISASTER MOVIE and BANGKOK DANGEROUS. Awesome! One day someone will make an indie version of THE PUNISHER that will kick all kinds of ass and people will scratch their heads and go, "Now was that so hard?" Maybe if we all give Lionsgate a big BOO-URNS loud enough it'll start to sink in...

Extra Tidbit: How about Shia LaBeouf as Frank Castle? And he can have a CGI sidekick while he's at it.

why do studios attempt to make movies that have mature content and then try to make it family friendly? Blood and guts DOES make the Punisher, the character is merciless. Thomas Jane is a good actor and his punisher was not true to the comics. The first movie was too average, you could have put Richard Gere in there, changed the name of the main character and it would have been fine but not as a Punisher movie. Someday we'll get a decent Punisher movie, someday.

SAD, SAD,SAD!!
This is so sad, turning the Punisher into the A-Team is the worst idea since Michael Jackson running a day care centre. I remember seeing the R-rated footage and thought, YES! a punisher film thats got the character right.
Why don't the rename the whole film to The Wristslapper-Spank Zone.

SOOO
AVP.R was rated R and still wasn't a great movie. Blood or guts doesn't make the movie, even if it is the Punisher.

I really liked the 1st one, wasn't over the top but still a good movie. That Punisher used his brain just as he did his guns.( with the whole set of , of making Travolta's wife look like he was cheating on him.

NOT TRUE
Apparently these are just rumors, including Lexi being off the movie. This was confirmed by the Director of Photography Steve Gainer. Let's hope this is true.

I actually enjoyed the thomas jane punisher, and while this new one didn't look better I know it still had the possibility of being an improvement (otherwise why make it). Now i'm almost certain it'll be worse.

Fuck yeah. Thats what i'm saying Grail. The reinvention of The Punisher is due to Garth Ennis and the most brutal and realistic Punisher ever. Its not a kiddie comic. Its says "for mature readers" on the cover. I thought a nights sleep would help, but nope..... still pissed off.

JACKGRIMALDI...
That is an easy answer. Why? Because the studio heads have this idiotic obsession in their heads that if it has anything at all to do with a comic book, then it has to be for kids. Here in the states, we have a general perceptual bias from the public that comic books and animation are only for ten year old children. We all need to not see this film if it gets cut and hope that it will send them the message that we adults have niches in this venue of entertainment as well. Geez, these people need to read some Garth Ennis books and ask themselves if this seems like a kiddie book to them...

I agree with theMonkey, what the fuck MARVEL? Step in and get some control. You guys own the rights, right? I mean can those lionsgate assholes just change the line-up after Lexi has done all the work? And why cut it down anyway? Too violent? give me a fucking break those dumbass Saw movies are bloody and violent. I want some answers. God......Dammit...
