Another new face is traveling through the wormhole that leads to the DONNIE DARKO sequel, S. DARKO. A gentleman by the name of Matthew Davis (URBAN LEGENDS: FINAL CUT, BLOODRAYNE, BELOW, right) has joined the cast that already includes Daviegh Chase, Ed Westwick, Briana Evigan, Justin Chatwin, and Elizabeth Berkley (who Jared P. last reported on here). Clearly this dude has got our genre in his blood, which qualifies him as a nice addition.

I absolutely loved D.D., but I’m unsure whether or not I’m down with a sequel. Not having Richard Kelly involved at all doesn’t do much for my confidence in S.D.’s story (and I heard that Mr. K. ain’t too pleased about 20th Century Fox adding onto his baby). I do like the fact that they got Daviegh Chase, the original Samantha Darko, to come back. She’s grown into quite the cutie as well (below).

I think my opinion on S.D. is going to boil down to a game-time decision (meaning I won’t know till I’m watching it). I just hope director Chris Fisher and writer Nathan Atkins have enough of an affection for their source material to give us something amazing and not just some rush job to cash in on. Here’s the plot synopsis thus far:

S. DARKO takes place in the summer of 1995, seven years after the original film. It follows Donnie Darko’s younger sister, Samantha, who, in the wake of his death, has found herself at age 17 with a broken family, mired in feelings of insignificance. She and her best friend Corey set off on a road trip to Hollywood in a bid to ‘make it big’, but their journey is cut short when their car breaks down unexpectedly, leaving them stranded in a small desert town. When a meteorite happens to crash-land nearby, Samantha is plagued by bizarre visions telling of the universe’s end and it appears that their breakdown was part of some grander plan. She must face her own demons and, in doing so, save the world and herself.

Actually sounds pretty promising. Maybe I’m… no, game-time decision! Final answer!
