Anyone seen the 1984 rock version of Fritz Lang’s silent film classic METROPOLIS?

Well, it looks like the shite’s coming back to theaters for a limited run this fall. Re-edited by Oscar-winning composer Giorgio Morodor…who integrated a number of popular rock songs from such artists as Pat Benatar, Freddy Mercury, Adam Ant and others into Lang’s film…the re-edit (shortened to 87 muinutes) is also being made available on DVD and Blu-ray on November 15th. The plan is to play the film theatrically in 20 select cities in the lead up to the disc-release. Here’s a list of cities heretofore:

Anchorage, San Francisco, San Diego, Miami Beach, Chicago, Albany, Charleston, Dallas, Houston, Olympia, Seattle, and Washington DC. The only Canadian stop so far is Vancouver.

For those who’ve never seen the 1927 original (do so immediately), it places us in a futuristic city sharply divided between the working class and the city planners, as the son of the city’s mastermind falls in love with a working class prophet who predicts the coming of a savior to mediate their differences.
