Here at AITH we love ourselves a good genre festival. The year is riddled with worthy festivals so as I’m sure you know we’re hitting you with fest news all the time! Today’s update is following right along with that!
You see folks, Screamfest LA 2010 have gone ahead and announced their first wave of competitive films for the festival. The event will be kicking off it’s 10th year starting October 8th the Mann Chinese Theaters in Hollywood, California. The festival will run through October 17th so we’ve got plenty of time to enjoy this one! Kara Andrews’ ALTITUDE: Altitude follows a group of teens on a weekend getaway aboard a small plane that suddenly turns deadly for the rookie pilot and four young friends. Minutes after the group takes-off, an unexplained malfunction sends the aircraft climbing out of control into the heart of a mysterious storm. Unable to get their bearings or contact the ground, the survivors gradually realize they are locked in combat with a terrifying supernatural force.
James Rabbit’s THE CLINIC: Of expectant mother Beth Church, drugged and abducted from a desolate outback motel. The year is 1979, many years before the advent of DNA. Beth wakens in an ice bath in an abandoned abattoir. Her baby has been removed from her. After searching for a way out she is found by three other young women all in the same predicament. There is also one other young woman in the same predicament, Beth and the other three women soon discover that it is everyone for themselves as they find themselves in a deadly game of survival.
John V. Soto’s NEEDLE: A college student inherits an 18th Century machine with deadly supernatural powers. When the machine goes missing and his friends start dying, the student must team with his estranged brother to find the thief and stop the killings.
Frank Lin’s HYSTERIA: To celebrate their 10th year high school reunion, a group of twenty-somethings throw an intimate house party to celebrate the event. However, when one of the group accidentally kills another with no explanation. As more brutalities occur, could this be the work of the individuals themselves or possessions by “The Walker”?
Adam Gierasch’s NIGHT OF THE DEMONS: Angela Feld is throwing the Halloween party to end all Halloween parties at the infamous Broussard Mansion in New Orleans, where dark events transpired almost a century ago. But when the packed party gets busted by the police, Angela and her friends Maddie, Lily, Suzanne, Colin, Dex and Jason are the only ones left behind. Soon Colin and Angela make a grisly discovery in the basement and inexplicable events start to take place. With the mansion gates mysteriously locked, the seven find themselves trapped for the night…and soon they’re fighting ancient demons for their very souls.

Jesse Holland and Andy Milton’s YELLOWBRICKROAD: One Morning in New England, 1940, when the entire population of Friar New Hampshire – 572 people – walked together up a winding mountain trail and into the wilderness. They left behind their clothes, their money, all of their essentials. Even their dogs were abandoned, tied to posts and left to starve. No One knows why. A search party dispatched by the U.S. Army eventually discovered the remains of nearly 300 of Friar’s evacuees. Many had frozen to death. Others were cruelly and mysteriously slaughtered. The bodies of the remaining citizens are still unaccounted for. Over the years, a quiet cover-up operation managed to weave the story of Friar into the stuff of legends and backwoods fairy tales. The town has slowly repopulated, but the vast wilderness is mostly untracked, with the northern-most stretches off limits to local hunters and loggers. In 2008, the coordinates for the “YELLOWBRICKROAD” trail head were declassified. The first official expedition into a dark and twisted wilderness will attempt to solve the mystery of the lost citizens of Friar…and reach the end of the trail.
