As a result of premiering at this year’s Sundance Film Festival (which wrapped last night), in the last week we’ve caught a clutch of new stills and a tight new poster for Eli Craig’s parodic slasher effort TUCKER & DALE VS EVIL. Taking a simple approach through a comedy of errors, TUCKER AND DALE VS EVIL tells the story of two back-wooded rednecks who are mistaken for murderers by a league of camping collegians. Mishaps ensue, bodies begin piling up, and soon we have a nice blend of death and humor that hopefully draws comparisons (at least in its success) to some of the shining examples of the subgenre (ZOMBIELAND, SHAUN OF THE DEAD, etc.)
Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine are the two rubes in question, with solid support coming from Katrina Bowden, Jesse Moss, Philip Granger, Brandon Jay McLaren, Chelan Simmons, Christie Laing, Travis Nelson, Alex Arsenault, Adam Beauchesne, Joseph Allan Sutherland, Karen Reigh, Tye Evans and Bill Baksa.
Without spoiling anything, I’ll just say the clips below are pretty f*ckin’ funny, especially the whole wood chipper ordeal. I think what makes it work is how dead pan and straight forward Tudyk and Labine are committing themselves to the material. There don’t seem to be many wink-wink horror parody moments we’ve seen hundreds of times before in spoof flicks. TUCKER & DALE appear to be the genuine article.
