Nicolas Winding Refn’s Her Private Hell is now available to rent or own digitally, with the director’s long-awaited return to feature filmmaking also getting a physical media release later this year. Refn’s first feature film in ten years, Her Private Hell premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival before receiving a theatrical release in July. The film stars Sophie Thatcher (Heretic, Yellowjackets) as a troubled young woman searching for her father while a mysterious mist engulfs a futuristic metropolis. The movie also stars Charles Melton (May December), Havana Rose Liu (Bottoms), Kristine Froseth (How to Blow Up a Pipeline), Dougray Scott, Diego Calva, Aoi Yamada, Shioli Kutsuna, and Hidetoshi Nishijima.

Her Private Hell gets a 4/10 from JoBlo
The film’s striking visual style has been one of its biggest talking points, but Her Private Hell received an unenthusiastic response from JoBlo’s own Chris Bumray. In his review, he awarded Her Private Hell a 4/10, calling it a “cool-looking bore.” Bumbray praised Refn’s visual approach and Donaggio’s score but ultimately found the film’s emphasis on atmosphere and experimentation outweighed its story.
Bumbray described the movie as “beautiful tedium,” arguing that Refn’s aesthetic is in full force but that the film lacks enough substance to sustain its nearly two-hour runtime. Nicolas Winding Refn’s first movie in ten years
