90% Benighted

If werewolves and THE CHRONIC(what)CLES OF NARNIA are a couple entries in your ‘cool’ book, then this little bit of news should have you yippin’ and hollerin’. According to Variety, NARNIA director Andrew Adamson is currently developing the novel adaptation of Kit Whitfield’s BENIGHTED, alongside Warner Bros. and Initial Entertainment Group.

BENIGHTED, currently released in the UK and gearing up for a release in the US, is about what happens when 90% of the world’s population are werewolves, and the few normals out there have to keep the piece every 30 days or so when a full moon hits. Sound cool? Sure it does!

The novel also hits on other more serious themes than being a werewolf (yes, more serious than that) like racism and the feeling of being alienated, making this a drama or sorts, with werewolves in it. The whole concept sounds great, and I think it could be really awesome… but if the dude who brought of SHREK and NARNIA is behind this movie… well, a PG rated werewolf movie will do nothing for me. Nothing I say!

Though it’s not confirmed that Adamson will direct, as at this point he’s just developing the adaptation with an option to direct, so we’ll just have to wait and see how it plays out. Stay tuned on more info. on BENIGHTED as we hear it!
