The Walking Dead Lauren Cohan

A couple years ago, The Walking Dead's Lauren Cohan and AMC ran into issues during contract negotiations that resulted in Cohan being written off the show in the first half of season 9 so she could go co-star in the ABC series Whiskey Cavalier. The door was always left open for Cohan to make future appearances on The Walking Dead, though, and now that Whiskey Cavalier has been cancelled it has been confirmed that Cohan is returning to the land of the Dead.

It was announced at New York Comic Con over the weekend that Cohan is coming back to the role of Maggie Greene Rhee, once again as a series regular. Since this announcement was made just as season 10 of The Walking Dead is beginning to air on AMC, you might think it pertains to this new season, but that's not the case. AMC has already ordered season 11 of the show, and that's when we'll see Maggie as a series regular again.

Sarah Barnett, President of AMC Networks Entertainment Group & AMC Studios, had this to say about the season 11 order and Cohan's return:

The Walking Dead burst out of the gate ten years ago as a genre show that had all the character depth of a top-tier prestige drama. And now ten years later – led by the brilliant Angela Kang and fueled by one of the most consistently talented casts in television – this phenomenon is flourishing creatively, with critics and audiences embracing its reset. We’re delighted to welcome back Lauren Cohan, she has meant so much to this show and its passionate, global fanbase, who are in for a fantastic ride over the coming months."

The story The Walking Dead is telling has moved ahead six years since Maggie's last episode, so it will be interesting to see where the character is at now.

The first episode of season 10 just aired on AMC last night.
