Universal and Blumhouse decided to pull their "humans hunting humans" thriller THE HUNT from the release schedule after a series of mass shootings struck the United States this summer, but the release of the survival thriller THE PREY, which also happens to be a story of "humans hunting humans", is still moving forward. Proof of that is the trailer that has been released online and can be seen below.

THE PREY tells a story that draws inspiration from Richard Connell's 1924 short story The Most Dangerous Game. The film stars newcomer Gu Shangwei as

Xin, an undercover Chinese detective. When the criminals that he is investigating are arrested, he is mistakenly sent with them to a remote Cambodian prison. He quickly discovers that the warden has no intention of rehabilitating the prisoners, instead offering wealthy businessmen the ultimate hunting experience; human prey. Xin has no choice but to fight for his freedom in a brutal and sadistic game of Hunter Vs Prey.

Vithaya Pansringarm co-stars as the bloodthirsty warden.

Directed by Jimmy Henderson from a script he wrote with Michael Hodgson and Kai Miller, THE PREY has been described as "Cambodia's first million-dollar action film", which is enough to get me interested in checking it out.

Lightbulb Film Distribution will be giving THE PREY a DVD, On Demand, and Digital release in the UK on October 7th. Region 2 DVD copies can be purchased at THIS LINK.
