The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman and his production company Skybound Entertainment are teaming with Universal Pictures to develop a film based on the Image comic book series KILL THE MINOTAUR.
Written by Christian Cantamessa and Chris Pasetto, with artwork by Lukas Ketner and Jean-Francois Beaulieu, KILL THE MINOTAUR is a "sword and sorcery" tale
based on the ancient Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur. Theseus must enter King Minos’s bizarre Labyrinth and defeat the Minotaur, a creature which feeds on human sacrifices, before the monster can escape its prison to threaten the world.
Cantamessa and Pasetto will be writing the screenplay adaptation themselves. This will be the pair's second film with Skybound – they previous wrote the sci-fi thriller AIR, starring Norman Reedus and Djimon Hounsou, which Cantamessa also directed.
Skybound's David Alpert, Sean Furst, and Bryan Furst released this joint statement about KILL THE MINOTAUR:
Christian and Chris have ingeniously taken one of the most ancient of horror stories and spun it into a vital sci-fi thriller. We’re excited to work with them on translating this great comic into the electrifying movie it deserves to be."
I haven't read the comic book, but it sounds like this has the potential to be pretty cool. We could use more sword and sorcery movies these days.
