Over the years the stars of the FAST & FURIOUS movies have been thrust into all sorts of wild action scenes, from energetic street races to confronting a submarine while driving sports cars on a frozen lake. There aren’t that many places left to take the crew – at least not on this planet – and after fans have entertained the notion of seeing them perform donuts on the moon series writer Chris Morgan is not ruling out taking the gang to space one day.

Morgan has been the writer behind the movies ever since TOKYO DRIFT, and while talking to EW about the latest in the series – the spinoff HOBBS & SHAW – he revealed that no idea is too crazy for the FAST gang, as long as it’s badass and makes sense.

“I would never shoot down space. Never, never. I would literally never shoot down anything, as long as it hits the parameters: ‘Is it badass? is it awesome? Will the audience love it? And will it not break faith with the audience as they’re watching it?’ I’m down for whatever.”

Much like the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE movies, each FAST movie keeps upping the ante in terms of crazy stunts, to the point where in FAST 8 Dwayne Johnson was redirecting torpedoes with nothing but his own muscles. Now in HOBBS $ SHAW he and Jason Statham are leaping out of buildings and taking down helicopters using cars like they’re a Barrel of Monkeys, all in the name of taking down a cybernetically-enhanced Idris Elba

The point is, space is not out of the question for Morgan, nor is it out of the realm of possibility for the series in general. It's only a matter of time before a threat makes its way to a space station, and the only way to save the world is to launch Vin Diesel into space in a makeshift, space-ready Lamborgini.

FAST & FURIOUS PRESENTS: HOBBS & SHAW is in theaters August 2.
