It's time once again to grab yourself a partner to dance the Release Date Shuffle, and your choices are Dune, Cry Macho and The Many Saints of Newark.
Warner Bros. announced that it's delaying the release of Denis Villeneuve's Dune to October 22, 2021, after having its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival. Dune is scheduled to be a part of this year's TIFF offerings as well. One of the reasons that Legendary is changing the date for Dune is that it does not want the sci-fi spectacle directly competing with MGM's long-delayed No Time to Die. Cary Joji Fukunaga's new Bond film will assuredly own the box office when it comes out, so getting out of the way of its success strikes me as a solid plan.
Another movie being shifted to another date is Alan Taylor's Sopranos feature The Many Saints of Newark. The film was previously scheduled to get tough in theaters on September 24, 2021, but instead will bow on October 1, 2021. Lastly, Clint Eastwood's Cry Macho is being moved up from October 22 to September 17, 2021. Directed by Eastwood, Cry Macho revolves around a one-time rodeo star and washed-up horse breeder who takes a job to bring a man's young son home and away from his alcoholic mom. On their journey, the horseman finds redemption by teaching the boy what it means to be a good man.
Be sure to mark your calendars accordingly and rearrange any theater plans you may have for these films. Movies theaters are bound to be booming as Covid restrictions continue to loosen. You don't want to get left out of the mix.
