Epix offers a first look at Jack Bannon as a young Alfred Pennyworth

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

When it was first announced that Bruce Wayne's loyal caretaker, Alfred Pennyworth, would be receiving his own spin-off series chronicling his years as a young SAS soldier, a number of Bat-fans from across the globe scoffed in disbelief. For some, the idea was viewed as a bizarre way to keep fans engaged in the ever-growing Bat-verse while director Matt Reeves sorts the details of his upcoming superhero solo fim, THE BATMAN. However, there are others (like me) who are genuinely curious about the PENNYWORTH project, and are excited to see what it can bring to the table.

Today, Epix has revealed a first look photo of Jack Bannon as a twenty-something version of the world-famous Bat-butler for the upcoming series. When the show kicks off, PENNYWORTH will center on Alfred, a former British SAS soldier in his 20s, who forms a security company and goes to work with a young billionaire Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge), who’s yet to father the fabled Bruce Wayne.

You can check out the new photo of Bannon as Alfred Pennyworth below:

Presented to his enemies as a handsome, affable, and clever young man from London, Alfred is in fact an adept killer who's able to move about the criminal underbelly with the greatest of ease. That's right kids, this ain't your daddy's Alfred Pennyworth, this is some straight up Bond-like business set in the vicious, twisted, and crime-ridden DC Universe. Hold onto your crumpets, my friends, and when Alfred offers you a spot of tea, be sure to test for poison along the rim of the cup.

PENNYWORTH hails from  executive producer and writer Bruno Heller (GOTHAM, ROME) and Danny Canon (JUDGE DREDD, DARK BLUE), with Canon expected to direct. The upcoming series, which began its production back in October of last year, will consist of 10 one-hour long episodes featuring characters and locales made famous by DC's long-standing history as a top entertaininer within the comic book spectrum and beyond.
