Godzilla vs. Kong casts Alexander Skarsgård in a lead role

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

As Legendary Pictures continues to stomp onto new ground with each installment of their planned Monsterverse, it's been confirmed by Deadline that TRUE BLOOD and THE LEGEND OF TARZAN actor Alexander Skarsgård has signed on to star in director Adam Wingard's GODZILLA VS. KONG. Orchestrated by writers room contributors Lindsey Beer, Patrick McKay, T.S. Nowlin, Jack Paglen, John D. Payne, Terry Rosio, J. Michael Straczynski and Cat Vasko, the upcoming kaiju slugfest featuring the King of Monsters, Godzilla, and the Eighth Wonder of the World, King Kong, is expected to explode onto screens come May 22, 2020.

As the fourth chapter of Legendary and Warner Bros. monumental monster mash, GODZILLA VS. KONG will find both iconic monsters going toe-to-claw in a battle for super-sized supremacy over a planet populated by hubris-driven humans. Set to star in the action sci-fi drama alongside Skarsgård are Millie Bobby Brown (Netflix's STRANGER THINGS), Danai Gurira (BLACK PANTHER, AMC's THE WALKING DEAD), Kyle Channing (SUPER 8, ARGO) and Julian Dennison (HUNT FOR THE WILDERPEOPLE, DEADPOOL 2), with Ziyi Zhang (MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA, THE GRANDMASTER), Demián Bichir (THE NUN, THE HATEFUL EIGHT), and Brian Tyree Henry (ATLANTA, THIS IS US).

Meanwhile, Michael Dougherty's GODZILLA: KING OF MONSTERS is still set for a May 31, 2019 release. In the film starring Mille Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Sally Hawkins, Anothony Ramos, and Bradley Whitford, the crypto-zoological agency Monarch faces off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah.

Hold onto your butts, my friends. The kaiju renaissance is upon us!
