Lock up your cats because Warner Bros. is developing a reboot of ALF

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Have we finally reached peak-reboot? Is that even possible? Well, Warner Bros. is looking to add another reboot to the growing pile as TVLine has reported that the studio is in the early stages of developing a reboot of ALF, the '80s sitcom which centered around the sarcastic extraterrestrial known as ALF (Alien Life Form) as he's taken in by the Tanner family.

ALF ran from 1986-1990, but the series, particularly the title character, have remained part of the pop-culture landscape over the decades. It's not known just how ALF would return as the project is still in the early stages, but Variety added that one idea which has reportedly been discussed would involve ALF "emerging from Area 51–where he has been held captive since the original series finale–and observing how much the world has changed since that time." It's also not known just how Paul Fusco, who served as the puppeteer and voice behind ALF, will be involved, but it's hard to imagine ALF without him. In addition to playing ALF, Fusco was also the series' co-creator, writer, director, and executive producer.

Every now and again there's a reboot or revival of a classic TV show which I can get behind, but for the most part, it just comes across as lazy, particularly as there are so many amazing original TV shows on the air today. Do we really need more ALF? Or Frasier? Or Murphy Brown? Or any of the seemingly countless numbers of TV reboots we've seen over the past few years? I don't know, but they just keep on coming.

What do you folks think? Are you down for more ALF?
