Over the course of seven seasons, Game of Thrones has delivered some truly shocking moments, but with the final season just over the horizon (although still so far), all bets are off as pretty much anything could happen. The HBO series has never been shy about killing off characters and the final six-episodes will almost certainly see more fan-favourites meeting the Seven-faced God. There are plenty of theories out there regarding just how the series will wrap everything up, but Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, spoke with Digital Spy to say that it may not go down exactly how we think.
For me – without giving anything away, I guess – I was satisfied with how unpredictable the show's ending really is. People have come up with so many fan theories about how it's going to end, and who will end up where, and who will end up with who. It really is so unpredictable the way that it ends up. I'm very satisfied with that, and I think that the fans will be satisfied with that, too. Well, we hope. We'll see!

Sophie Turner further teased that Game of Thrones show-runners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have "definitely upped the ante [in the final episodes]. They've got nice, big battle scenes, that's for sure." It's no small feat to put together a satisfying conclusion, particularly for a series such as Game of Thrones, but I'm betting on Benioff and Weiss sticking the landing.
However, even when the series does come to a close, our time in Westeros will be far from over. As HBO obviously wants to keep the Game of Thrones train going, they've been in the process of developing several prequel spin-offs, the first of which take place thousands of years prior to the main series. HBO recently gave a pilot order to the prequel which will fall under the reins of Jane Goldman (KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE). The pilot, which George R.R. Martin hopes will be called The Long Night, will chronicle "the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend–it’s not the story we think we know." Despite HBO moving ahead with the Goldman project, George R.R. Martin has said that the other prequels, each set in different periods and featuring different characters and storylines, are still in the works. "Everything I am told indicates that we could film at least one more pilot, and maybe more than one, in the years to come," Martin said. "We do have an entire world and tens of thousands of years of history to play with, after all. But this is television, so nothing is certain."
The final season of Game of Thrones will return to HBO in 2019.
