Game of Thrones Film Moving Forward at Warner Bros. With Andor Scribe

Is Game of Thrones the Energizer Bunny of action-fantasy franchises? It just keeps going! On Tuesday, reports about Warner Bros. officially developing a Game of Thrones movie began circulating. After doing some mild digging, we’ve confirmed that it’s true, and Andor writer Beau Willimon is writing the script!

What Would the Game of Thrones Movie Be About?

According to The New York Post, both HBO and the Warner Bros. film division are working on rival versions of the story of King Aegon I Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros. In their report, the Post says the Game of Thrones film aims to become a Dune-sized affair.

While Warner Bros. is still figuring out its future with Paramount, it’s worth noting that Game of Thrones is Paramount boss David Ellison’s favorite show. Hence, the likelihood of the GOT movie coming to fruition bodes well.

Plenty of GOT to Go Around

We’ve heard rumors about a Game of Thrones movie getting kicked around before. In 2013, the showrunners of Game of Thrones, David Benioff and Dan Weiss, proposed ending the original series with three feature films. HBO turned its nose up at the idea, though in hindsight, we may have been better off. With the success of HBO’s House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, it’s not a secret that HBO wants to continue making Game of Thrones prequels and spinoffs. While waiting for HBO to figure out its next move, we still have a third season of House of the Dragon on the way, plus A Knight of Seven Kingdoms is also on the way.

Which Format is Better?

What do you think about HBO and Warner Bros. bringing Game of Thrones to the silver screen? Are you more inclined to watch a film version of George R.R. Martin’s fantasy universe, or do you prefer the franchise’s episodic format? I don’t know what GOT could do to win me back. The final season of the original series was a huge let-down, and I lost interest in House of the Dragon about 20 minutes into the first episode.
