Mila Kunis & Kate McKinnon escape assassins in The Spy Who Dumped Me trailer

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Mila Kunis plays Audrey in THE SPY WHO DUMPED ME, a woman who is unexpectedly thrust into an international conspiracy, along with her best friend Morgan (Kate McKinnon), when her ex-boyfriend (Justin Theroux) shows up at her apartment with a team of deadly assassins on his trail. Now on the run in Europe, the pair hatch a plan to save the world. Lionsgate has released the latest trailer for the action/comedy flick, and much like the first, it doesn't look too bad. Plus, it's got Gillian Anderson!

Director Susanna Fogel, who co-wrote the film with her friend David Iserson, said that the project began to take shape when the pair wanted to explore action films through the lense of female friendship. "We were at lunch one day and one of us said, ‘Broad City meets Bourne,'" Fogel said. "Our jumping-off point was, What would we do if we had to run from the cops in, like, my Toyota Prius? What would we do if we were confronted with an assassin? We’d probably make fun of something he was wearing." Fogel also wanted to make sure that the action was the real deal, saying, "It was really important that it felt legitimate. We were going for stunts that weren’t ironic, for real action-movie action."

The official synopsis for THE SPY WHO DUMPED ME:

Audrey (Mila Kunis) and Morgan (Kate McKinnon), two thirty-year-old best friends in Los Angeles, are thrust unexpectedly into an international conspiracy when Audrey’s ex-boyfriend shows up at their apartment with a team of deadly assassins on his trail. Surprising even themselves, the duo jump into action, on the run throughout Europe from assassins and a suspicious-but-charming British agent, as they hatch a plan to save the world.

THE SPY WHO DUMPED ME will hit theaters on August 3, 2018.
