Universal Pictures has released the final trailer for Other Mommy, the supernatural horror movie starring Jessica Chastain and directed by Rob Savage. The new trailer arrives ahead of the film’s October theatrical release, giving horror fans one more look at the adaptation of Josh Malerman’s novel Incidents Around the House. Chastain stars in Other Mommy alongside Jay Duplass, Dichen Lachman, Karen Allen, Sean Kaufman, Adam Silver, Carrie Dimaculangan, and newcomer Arabella Olivia Clark, who plays eight-year-old Bela.
Savage, who previously directed Host and The Boogeyman, directs from a screenplay by Nathan Elston. The film is produced by Atomic Monster and Blumhouse in association with Spin a Black Yarn for Universal Pictures. James Wan is producing, with Rob Savage and Josh Malerman serving as executive producers alongside Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Macdara Kelleher, and Ryan Lewis. Alayna Glasthal oversees the project for Atomic Monster.
What is Other Mommy about?
Other Mommy follows eight-year-old Bela, whose home life is already strained by her parents’ troubled marriage when a sinister presence she calls “Other Mommy” begins emerging from her closet each night. The entity repeatedly asks Bela one question: “Can I go inside your heart?” When the girl refuses, Other Mommy becomes increasingly aggressive, putting Bela and her entire family in danger.
The movie is based on Josh Malerman’s Incidents Around the House, which was published following the author’s success with Bird Box. The premise has also drawn comparisons to 2013’s Mama, another Jessica Chastain horror film featuring children being haunted by a mysterious maternal entity.
Other Mommy has received an R rating from the MPA for “some bloody violence, and language.”
When does Other Mommy hit theatres?
Universal Pictures originally planned to release Other Mommy on May 8, 2026, but the studio moved the movie to the Halloween season. It is now scheduled to arrive in theatres on October 9, 2026, so we have less than a month left to wait for this one.
