Word has spread that Stephen Dorff has been cast opposite Mahershala Ali and Carmen Ejogo for the third season of HBO's TRUE DETECTIVE. Created by Nic Pizzolatto, the anthology crime drama explores the lives and cases of hard-boiled law enforcement officials working to solve a series of unfortunate events.

For Season 3, the show will reveal a gruesome crime at the center of the Ozarks. As the mystery deepens, decades will pass as the detectives work the case into three separate time periods. Mahershala Ali will step into the role of Wayne Hayes, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas, while Stephen Dorff will play Roland West, an Arkansas State Investigator who, along with his partner, has his life and career influenced over three decades by a baffling crime.

Just like when he penned the first (and better-received) season, Pizzolatto will once again serve as the sole writer for the third season with the exception of Episode 4, which he co-wrote with David Milch. Directing Season 3 will be Jeremy Saulnier, who will be joined by Pizzolatto as a part of his directorial debut.

Most recently, Dorff has been hard at work on the feature film WHEELER. Written and co-directed by Dorff, WHEELER shares the story of an aspiring musician from Texas who travels to Nashville with the lifelong dream of trying his hand at country music. In addition to his writer and director credits on the project, Stephen also wrote and performed all of the music featured in the film. Boy howdy, that's a lot of work! I'm actually real curious about that one, now.

There is no confirmed date in reference to when TRUE DETECTIVE Season 3 will debut at this time.
