Full CG film Resident Evil: Vendetta shows off some zombie gun-kata

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

So apparently there’s been a series of fully CG RESIDENT EVIL movies coming out from Japan, concurrent with the Milla Jovovich-actioners from across the Pacific. I’ve never seen one, but apparently they’re very popular, and the third one RESIDENT EVIL: VENDETTA is on the way. And here’s a new clip from the film. Enjoy!

As someone who enjoyed the ancillary FINAL FANTASY: ADVENT CHILDREN movie, I get the appeal of these cut-scenes-writ-large films. However, having said that, nothing here appealed to me personally. It honestly seems just as hackneyed, cliche, and boiler-plate as the live-action films…only now it’s fully CGI, instead of mostly CGI. I mean, I presume it’s closer to the story of the games (which is cool I guess), but the games honestly weren’t known for their great stories either.

Having said all that, I have to admit seeing Leon go all JOHN WICK on those zombies was still pretty sweet. So there’s that.

Anyway, here’s the official synopsis:

RESIDENT EVIL: VENDETTA is the third installment in the popular CG animated film franchise. This one night event includes an exclusive introduction from the cast and behind-the-scenes footage. Derived from Capcom’s Resident Evil, one of the bestselling video game franchises of all time, RESIDENT EVIL: VENDETTA features the fan-favorite characters Leon S. Kennedy (Matt Mercer), Chris Redfield (Kevin Dorman) and Rebecca Chambers (Erin Cahill). The film is produced by Marza Animation Planet (Space Pirate Captain Harlock), executive produced by Takashi Shimizu (The Grudge), written by Makoto Fukami (Psycho Pass), and directed by Takanori Tsujimoto (Bushido Man).

Meanwhile, RESIDENT EVIL: VENDETTA will be released June 19th, 2017.
