FX orders pilot for Sons of Anarchy spinoff; Kurt Sutter to direct

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter is not yet done with his motorcycle club saga, as Deadline reports that FX has just ordered a pilot for a spinoff entitled, "Mayans MC." Fans of Anarchy may remember the Mayans as recurring characters, and now the new series will follow the struggles of EZ Reyes, a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the California/Mexico border. Sutter is collaborating with Elgin James this time around, stating that he "wanted to find a strong, unique Latino voice, because I didn’t think a white guy from Jersey should be writing about Latin culture and traditions." Fair enough!

While I haven't watched Sons of Anarchy myself, I know enough about the show that fans were disappointed with its final season. Perhaps Sutter and Co. can do fans proud with this new story. And if there were any survivors from Sons, I'm sure we can expect them to pop up every now and again too. After all, I assume the series is about what great friends everyone is because they all ride bikes, right?

Production on Mayans MC will begin in March of 2017.
