HBO's Game of Thrones recently wrapped up its sixth season and the stage has been set for the (hopefully) epic conclusion to this adaptation of George R.R. Martin's work. Game of Thrones show-runners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have confirmed that the series only has two more seasons left to go and will likely consist of fewer episodes than we've been used to. Typically the show premieres around March/April each year, but we may have a little more of a wait ahead of us until the seventh season debuts and if you're looking for someone to blame, turn your gaze towards that pesky Westeros winter.

Benioff and Weiss spoke on a UFC podcast recently and revealed that shooting has been pushed back in order to set the stage for the aforementioned winter.

We don't have an air date yet, we're starting a bit later because at the end of this season, 'Winter is here' — and that means that sunny weather doesn't really serve our purposes anymore. So we kind of pushed everything down the line, so we could get some grim, gray weather even in the sunnier places that we shoot.

The show-runners are in the midst of writing the "final-act" now and although there's not a firm date set for the series' return, it's still expected to premiere sometime in 2017. Now that winter is finally here, it will be interesting to see what sort of an affect it will have on the world of Westeros. Will we see snow covering the Eyrie? Kings Landing? Highgarden?
