Val Kilmer says, “Yes!” to Top Gun 2

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Earlier in the year, Tom Cruise stated that he was still keen on making TOP GUN 2 if they could do it without the use of computer generated jets. While I admire Tom's affinity for practical effects in today's cinematic world, it's the story I'm more concerned about. Drone warfare is said to be a factor, and now we may have confirmation of a possible returning character: Iceman. Val Kilmer took to his Facebook page to say a few words and was more than enthused!

Val Kilmer on TOP GUN 2:

I just got offered ‪#‎topgun2‬ – not often you get to say "yes" without reading the script…

"It's starring Gene Hackman…" "Yes"

"The director is Francis Coppola…" "Yes!"

They aren't involved in this production. These are examples of what an actor says yes to – like Jerry Bruckheimer and Tom Cruise!!! "Yes."

We will all miss Tony Scott one of the kindest gentlemen I've ever met in the film biz, but let's fire up some fighter jets again!!! This is a long way off so calm down. This has been talked about for a long long time and being offered a role is very different from doing a role. I jumped the gun with my post. I jumped the topgun… An innocent mistake. It was just such a wonderful phone call with my agent…

Initially, folks thought that Gene Hackman and Francis Ford Coppola were actually involved in the production of TOP GUN 2, but Kilmer edited his post to reflect what he really meant; that they were just some people he had to say, "yes" to. It looks as though Bruckheimer and Cruise are still feeling things out, but with a few of the original actors on-board this early on, it's hard not to get excited. That volleyball scene is going to be hard to top…
