Cobie Smulders to star alongside Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher 2

If you've enjoyed Cobie Smulders turn as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. in Marvel's universe, you're about to see her star alongside one of today's great leading men. Shooting is set to begin in 3 months' time, and word is that director Edward Zwick has chosen Cobie to star alongside Tom Cruise in JACK REACHER 2. The film is said to follow Reacher as he heads back to his old military base in Virginia to take a woman to dinner who is now the commanding officer. By the time he gets there, she has been arrested, he's charged with accosting someone that he didn't, and also accused of fathering a child with someone else! Lawdy!

I've been enjoying Smulders since her role on How I Met Your Mother, and it's great to see her transition into playing a bit of a badass in feature films. I haven't read the book, "Never Go Back," on which this movie will be based, but it sounds like Smulders will be playing the commanding officer who's arrested. Perhaps she'll be the knocked-up woman. Or there will be a massive twist and she'll play both! Either way, she should prove to be a great match for Cruise!

JACK REACHER 2 is scheduled to be released sometime in 2016.
