What did you think of…Ant-Man?

While just about everyone thought that AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON would be THE summer movie and a potential slam dunk for the superhero sequel, things didn't go quite as expected. Although some fans loved the film, it seemed to come in just shy of what was hoped for (I know it did for me), while still providing some cool/rousing moments for the burgeoning MCU. Now, the closing act of Marvel's Phase Two has arrived in the form of ANT-MAN, which has had a very long and bumpy road to the big screen, notably with the exit of original director Edgar Wright. However, the film pulled together with director Peyton Reed and a stellar cast, including Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, and Michael Pena. It was always going to be a riskier venture, as the world of ANT-MAN is not exactly at the forefront of the everyday fan. Then again, neither was GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, but we all saw how that worked out.

Taking the Marvel Cinematic Universe into a bold new direction by expanding it into the microverse and introducing a rich new history that involves Hank Pym (Douglas) and Janet Van Dyne (and the Pym Particles), as well as the next generation with Scott Lang (Rudd) and Hope Van Dyne (Lilly), there's much more to explore in ANT-MAN. The only question now is: Will folks want to take that journey? So far, ANT-MAN has had a warm reception, sitting at a certified fresh score on RT. Our own Chris Bumbray gave it an 8/10 and, having sat through the film with him, I have to agree. Personally, I think ANT-MAN is the better of the two Marvel films released this year and loved the comedy, adventure, and characters. It's light, fun, and kitschy, but not without attitude. Not perfect, but a solid crowd pleaser. Also, don't forget to stick around for the mid credits AND post credits scenes!
