If you watch any film that serves up a sizable action set-piece before the opening credits have hit, it will undoubtedly be called a "James Bond opening." The series has made a name for itself for getting the viewer's attention right off the bat and SPECTRE will continue that tradition in a big way. We've talked about what we can expect to see in SPECTRE's opening before, but this video blog actually shows us the time and effort it took to create a full-on Day of the Dead festival, complete with 1,500 extras in full costume.
Director Sam Mendes on the opening to SPECTRE:
I wanted the audience to be dropped right into the middle of a very, very specific, very heady, rich environment. It’s the Day of the Dead, everywhere you look there’s colour and detail and life. We’ve built floats and maquettes, the costumes are extraordinary and the craftsmanship is amazing.
The budget for SPECTRE is absolutely insane, and given how well Sam Mendes brought a Bond tale to screens with SKYFALL, I'm sure the audience is going to see every penny come this November. From what I've read about the opening of the movie, it sounds like your standard Bond fare, but the fact they hired the only person licensed by the FAA to perform 360 degree flips in a helicopter has me pretty excited.
SPECTRE will hit theaters on November 6, 2015.
