Fred Armisen to be in Zoolander 2; Wagner Moura will join Magnificent Seven

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Some cool casting news for you today regarding two films that couldn’t be more different from each other. First up is ZOOLANDER 2, where we find Derek (Ben Stiller) and Hansel (Owen Wilson) back in modelling action with an opposing company trying to take them out of the business. Good luck with that! If there are any Portlandia fans reading this, they’re bound to be excited as Fred Armisen has signed on to take part in the sequel. Stiller posted a video of the man gearing up for his trip to Rome to join the rest of the cast.

Excited @sordociego (Fred Armisen!!) is joining the #zoolander2 cast!

Next up is Antoine Fuqua‘s THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN. So far they’ve put together a stellar SEVEN, including the likes of Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, and Ethan Hawke. Lest we forget, Vincent D’Onofrio recently signed on as the film’s villain, having kicked some serious ass already in Marvel’s Daredevil series. This next name is not as well-known (at least in the States), but Wagner Moura will be playing one the titular SEVEN. You’ll most likely recognize him from Neill Blomkamp‘s ELYSIUM, where he played Spider, but he has quite the fan base in Brazil from his ELITE SQUAD films.

I have no qualms with a relatively unknown actor taking a massive role, as a film should always be about casting the right actors, instead of the biggest ones. Regardless of the rest of the names that will eventually join the picture, I already can’t wait to see this flick, given that writer John Lee is working off a draft of the script penned by True Detective’s Nic Pizzolatto. Magnificent indeed!

ZOOLANDER 2 will hit theaters on February 12, 2016, while THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN is aiming for a summer 2016 release.
