Marvel has announced another addition to the cast of AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.: THE SOPRANOS and SONS OF ANARCHY star Drea de Matteo will join the cast as Karla Faye Gideon, a woman with special gifts who joins forces with Skye’s father Cal (Kyle McLachlan). Searching the Marvel archives, there is a character from the pages of DAREDEVIL who shares the same name but there is no indication this is a version of that creation.
Drea de Matteo won an Emmy for her role on THE SOPRANOS and has also appeared in shows like JOEY and DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES. She has played both good and bad characters, but the association on AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. with Cal likely means we are going to see her evil side.
Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb had this to say about the casting.
“We’re thrilled to have Drea join us as yet another great villain to challenge our cast. We relished the opportunity to work with her in such a menacing role.”
AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. has been building the anticipation for the return of the show’s second season as being focused on Skye’s newfound Inhuman abilities that left us with a cliffhanger back in December. I would venture to guess de Matteo’s role will tie directly into that.
AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. returns with new episodes beginning March 3rd.
