THE LEGO MOVIE had no business being good, but to everyone's delight, it was a fun family film that brought a lot of adults back to the time when LEGOs were the building blocks of imagination. Due to the success of said LEGO MOVIE, a whole LEGO universe has been launched with spinoffs aplenty, not the least of which is THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE. Last month we learned that the film would be acknowledging all of the previous Batman flicks, which sounds like there will be plenty to lampoon in the LEGO iteration. Producer Dan Lin also revealed that they sought out the likes of Warner Bros. and Christopher Nolan to approve of their upcoming vision.
Here's what Dan Lin had to say:
We approached both Warners and Christopher Nolan. And myself, Chris Miller and Phil Lord, we pitched a different kind of Batman. We said, "You guys have your live-action Batman, we have what we called the Lego Batman. A Batman that's very self-aware. That is, you know, a bit of a jerk at times." As soon as they understood there are different universes, that worked out OK. But that was a big challenge going to all the different rightsholders, saying, "This is how we're going to take your character and Lego-ize it.
Lin went on to say that the film is deep in production and that of course Will Arnett will reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Personally I love the fact they're going to acknowledge the previous films as there has to be a lot of comedic gold to mine. In case you need to get your Batman fix a little earlier than the release of LEGO BATMAN in 2017, the final installment in Rocksteady's Arkham games, Batman: Arkham Knight, hits 6 months from now. If you haven't had a chance to play through Arkham Asylum or Arkham City yet, you're missing out on some of the best Batman has to offer! Get on that! A second video was released (you can check it out here), but it doesn't look to show any gameplay footage. The game speaks for itself, but as you can see the visuals are breathtaking and the gameplay fast and fierce. With this game coming next year, BATMAN V SUPERMAN in 2016, and THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE in 2017, it looks at though bat-fans have a lot to digest over the next few years. Here's hoping they all do the character justice!
