Listen to eerie music from Trent Reznor’s score for Gone Girl

If there has been one consistently brilliant part of David Fincher‘s recent films, it is the musical contributions of Academy Award winning composers Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Between THE SOCIAL NETWORK and THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, Reznor and Ross have created some of the most ethereal and haunting musical scores in recent memory, scores vastly different than anything else in studio films. We will be treated once again to this trio in the upcoming film GONE GIRL.

GONE GIRL looks to be an unsettling experience in it’s own right, but Reznor and Ross have plans to make us feel even more uncomfortable as we watch a marriage unravel on screen. Reznor even laid out what his plans are in this interview:

“Think about the really terrible music you hear in massage parlors … The way that it artificially tries to make you feel like everything’s OK. And then imagine that sound starting to curdle and unravel.”

There is now a selection of five tracks from GONE GIRL up on SoundCloud and you can see if Trent Reznor kept us his part of the bargain. For my money, he absolutely has and may be delivering another awards contending score. If you listen to one of these tracks, check out “The Way He Looks At Me” for the best hint to the tone of the film.

GONE GIRL opens everywhere on October 3rd.
