As they are apt to do with animated films, 20th Century Fox and Dreamworks Animation have plotted out the next several years of movies from their cartoon department. A good mix of sequels and original products populate the list that runs from releases in 2016 through 2018.

First up on March 18, 2016 is the film BOSS BABY. There is very little known about the film aside from the fact that it will take the spot previously announced for an animated Bollywood musical from Kevin Lima. That film moves to March 10, 2017. Also newly announced was an adaptation of the popular CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS children's books which will hit theaters on January 13, 2017 and features the vocal work of Kevin Hart, Ed Helms and Nick Kroll. Rob Letterman, director of MONSTERS VS. ALIENS and the upcoming GOOSEBUMPS movie is helming that film.

On November 3, 2017 we will get THE CROODS 2, sequel to the surprise hit starring the voices of Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, and Nicolas Cage. Other announced sequels include MADAGASCAR 4 on May 18, 2018 and PUSS IN BOOTS 2: NINE LIVES & 40 THIEVES which will hit screens on November 2, 2018. We can probably venture to guess that Antonio Banderas will return as Puss and that it will somehow involve Aladdin and maybe a genie. As for MADAGASCAR, the PENGUINS OF MADAGASCAR trailer dropped yesterday making this the fifth overall film in that franchise. Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, Jada Pinkett-Smith, David Schwimmer, and Sacha Baron Cohen are all expected to return.

The lone original film with plot details is LARRIKINS. The title comes from an Australian word meaning "mischevious youth" and will follow a desert-dwelling marsupial who ventures out from his sheltered life. That movie will premiere on February 16, 2018.

I am excited for the PUSS IN BOOTS and CROODS sequels as I greatly enjoyed the original film in both franchises. I am a little surprised to see no word on KUNG FU PANDA 3, but maybe that will come after this round.

For now, Dreamworks and Fox have HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2 hitting theaters tomorrow along with PENGUINS OF MADAGASCAR on November 26th and HOME with Steve Martin on March 27, 2015.
