Rachel Weisz is officially back as Evelyn O’Connell. The first photos of the actress on the set of The Mummy 4 have surfaced, giving fans their first look at her return to the beloved adventure franchise more than two decades after she last played the character.
Weisz was photographed in London while filming the new Mummy movie, wearing a period costume. The images offer the first glimpse at what Evelyn will look like when she reunites with Brendan Fraser’s Rick O’Connell in the long-awaited sequel.
Weisz last played Evelyn in 2001’s The Mummy Returns. She did not return for 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, with Maria Bello taking over the role. Now, after nearly 25 years, Weisz is back.

Weisz’s return is a pretty big deal for The Mummy 4, considering how important the chemistry between Evelyn and Rick was to the first two movies. In the original The Mummy, Evelyn was introduced as a librarian and Egyptologist whose fascination with ancient history led her and her brother Jonathan Carnahan into the legendary lost city of Hamunaptra. There, she became caught up in the resurrection of Imhotep and the ensuing supernatural chaos, eventually falling in love with Fraser’s Rick O’Connell. The Mummy Returns picked up their story after they had married and started a family.
The new movie will bring Weisz back alongside Fraser, who is once again playing Rick. John Hannah is also returning as Jonathan Carnahan, while Oded Fehr is back as Ardeth Bay and Kevin J. O’Connor is reprising his role as Beni Gabor from the original The Mummy.
Michael Johnston, who starred in Obsession, is also in the cast, while Numan Acar has joined the movie in an undisclosed role.
What Is The Mummy 4 About?
That’s still being kept under wraps. Universal hasn’t revealed the plot of the new Mummy movie, so we don’t yet know what supernatural threat will bring Rick, Evelyn, Jonathan, and the rest of the returning characters back into the action.
We do know that The Mummy 4 is being directed by Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett from a screenplay by David Coggeshall. The filmmakers have previously teased a movie that will be “really, really beautiful and scary and sweeping,” suggesting that they intend to preserve the mixture of horror, adventure, and blockbuster spectacle that made the original movies so popular.
When Does The Mummy 4 Come Out?
The Mummy 4 is currently scheduled to hit theaters on October 15, 2027. The movie was originally scheduled for May 19, 2028, before Universal moved it up to its current October 2027 release date.
For now, there’s still plenty we don’t know about the story, including exactly what Rick and Evelyn will be facing this time around. But after years of wondering whether the original Mummy stars would ever reunite, seeing Rachel Weisz back as Evelyn is a pretty exciting first look at what’s coming.
