New poster for The Rover, starring Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson

If this one actor I could use more in the world of cinema, it’s Guy Pearce. The aspect I love about watching this man at work, is that he brings a sort of quiet intensity to the role he’s playing. It’s almost as if you can feel the character’s thought process; see the gears moving, before whatever action he takes. The tricky part of being a good actor is taking someone else’s words and actions and making them your own. Pearce makes it second-hand.

Here is the new poster for the upcoming film, THE ROVER:

I wouldn’t say the poster is going up on my wall, but it gets the job done (and beats the previous poster, which you can see below). It’s also very reminiscent of one of the first images from the film that dropped back in March of last year. The focus of the film will be on the dichotomy between Pearce and Robert Pattinson, and I’m more than willing to forgive Pattinson’s TWILIGHT transgressions (actors have bills too) to see what he can bring to the Austrailian table. What really makes this a must-see for me, is the style of the film, of which you can see the trailer here.

Here’s a bit of a more detailed synopsis:

The Rover is set in the Australian desert in a dangerous and dysfunctional near future. Eric has left everything and every semblance of human kindness behind him. When his last possession, his car, is stolen by a gang of dangerous criminals, Eric sets off to track them down and is forced along the way to enlist the help of Reynolds, the naive member of the gang left behind in the bloody chaos of the gang’s most recent escape.

I’m really digging the vibe of the film thus far. I haven’t had a chance to check out director David Michod’s previous feature, ANIMAL KINGDOM, but I’ve heard nothing but good things. I’d say it’s a good sign when a trailer makes you want to check out everything else a filmmaker has worked on.

THE ROVER, starring Guy Pearce, Robert Pattinson, Scott McNairy, and Anthony Hayes, will arrive in theaters June 20, 2014.
