J.J. Abrams teases more Star Wars: Episode VII casting news: plus Chewie!

JoBloJoBlo

Yesterday was the sacred day for all Star Wars fans and Disney/Lucasfilm dropped some nice little tidbits over the last week.  The biggest report hit April 29th when official casting news came our way.  Most of the names we had heard over the past few months, but there were still some welcome surprises in the form of Andy Serkis and Max von Sydow.  On May 4th, the official trailer hit for the upcoming Star Wars: Rebels TV show (which you can check out here).  Honestly, I'm more curious to check out this show than the Clone Wars that came before it.  Perhaps the familiarity of a rebellion fighting against classic stormtroopers is playing a factor?

Yesterday also saw a nice little greeting from writer/director J.J. Abrams as well as writer Lawrence Kasdan.  They took some time out wish us all a happy Star Wars day, and also happen to mention that more casting news will be announced.

I'm thrilled just to see the man who penned THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK working alongside Abrams, but am definitely itching to get some more casting information (Lando please!).

Meanwhile, on the official Star Wars Instagram, this picture of a familiar character standing alongside Disney executive Bob Iger was posted:

The co-pilot is looking as classic as he ever did, although I was expecting a few more grays.  Good genes, I suppose?  This is only the beginning, however, as we can expect plenty of more production photos to hit as production heats up with the return to the classic space saga.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII, starring Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow lands in our galaxy December 18, 2015.
